About 20/20 Window Cleaning Owner, Jim Selvio
Jim Graduated from Logansport High School in 1985 and from Wabash College in 1989. He married Renee in August of 1990. Jim and Renee have lived in or near the Carmel, IN area since graduating from college with the exception of a three year period in which they lived in the Cincinnati, Ohio area for a corporate position with Jim’s company. Between 1996 and 1999 Jim and Renee gave birth to their three daughters: Nicole in 1996, Angela in 1998, and Kristen in 1999. (Actually, Renee did that giving birth thing. Jim was just there holding Renee’s hand and saying all the wrong things). Jim, Renee, and their three daughters moved into their current Carmel residence in April of 1999.
The Selvio family is highly engaged in the Carmel community. Renee is an elementary teacher in the Carmel Clay School system and all three daughters attend Carmel Clay Schools. The children are all involved in their respective school’s athletic and extra curricular programs and Jim is a Varsity Wrestling Coach at Carmel High School. The family is a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church but can be found visiting Northview Christian Life Church on occasion.
After graduating from Wabash College, Jim went to work in the telecommunications industry. He began his career in sales. He sold large phone systems to businesses, schools, government agencies, and hospitals. Opportunities and circumstances came about that led Jim into the operational management side of the telecommunications business and it is here that the obsessive-compulsive entrepreneurial spirit was born. Jim worked in the operational end of the telecommunications business from 1990 until 1999 and learned a great deal about how to implement policy, process and procedure while working with a team. Jim became Director of Operations for the Mid-west and Eastern Regions. The director level position kept Jim on the road and he began traveling extensively. He was in and out of airports traveling to his responsibility areas with overnight stays 3 – 5 days per week. This was all happening while Renee was at home in a new community with one and then two newborns and another on the way. Life had gotten very complicated. Jim’s family was developing and he was not there to witness it. In addition, he had gotten completely away from wrestling.
At a time when life should have been great, Jim was miserable. So, one joyless morning before going to the airport, Jim looked at Renee and asked the questions that changed it all, “Do you want to move back to Indiana?” By the time Jim got back from his trip, Renee had organized a move. All Jim had to do was sell the house. He did. They moved. And 20/20 was born.
Outside of his family and 20/20, Jim’s passions are fueled by the sport of wrestling. He began wrestling in 5th grade and continued his career throughout college. He was a four year letter winner in College and was named Co-captain of his team his senior year. Many life lessons and a great deal of Jim’s personality traits have been shaped as a result of his involvement with wrestling. His determination to found 20/20 and his dedication to make it the best company of its kind is rooted in his wrestling background. Jim’s coaches had a tremendously positive impact on his life and he wanted to have an opportunity to do the same for young men and so he pursued a high school coaching position.
As a wrestling coach Jim believes his attitude has a powerful impact on the wrestlers. When asked about this, here is what Jim stated: “As a wrestling coach, and a person that works with young men nearly every day for most of the year, my attitude has a powerful impact on the wrestlers. That impact will be positive or negative depending on the choices I make. I have an obligation to develop a positive attitude, one that will inspire our wrestlers to achieve the impossible. I must have a genuine hunger to be successful in order to lead effectively. If I have this passion, I believe that it will inspire the wrestlers and it will become positively infections amongst the team.”
Whether it is in the wrestling room, at a customer’s house with 20/20, or at home with his family, Jim employs this same philosophy. It is just one of the reasons over 4,000 customers have trusted 20/20 with their window cleaning and home maintenance needs.
